FEST 2023:
TOP 10 MUST-SEE ACTS
BY KARLO DAYEZ
PARAMORE
They’re back! Coming off a five year hiatus, Paramore has resurfaced with their new album, ‘This Is Why’. Debuting with a number 2 spot on the Billboard 200, and number one in our hearts, they are arguably one of the best headliners to catch at the festival. Whether you’re there for explosive new hits like ‘Figure 8’ and ‘You First’, or emo classics like ‘Ignorance’ and ‘Misery Business’, this is a set you don’t want to miss.
SZA
Following critical acclaim of her debut album CRTL, SZA is finally back with her hit sophomore album, SOS. From her fan favorite track ‘Kill Bill’ sitting at number one for consecutive weeks, to ‘SOS’ breaking multiple records, SZA is definitely the talk of the town. Grab some comfortable shoes and a tissue box, and come experience a plethora of emotions from an artist who is truly a master of her craft.
LIL NAS X
For a long as I can remember, Lil Nas has never failed to glimmer in the spotlight. From his brilliant fashion pieces, to his massive hits like ‘Old Town Road’ & ‘Industry Baby’, it’s no wonder why he remains one of generation z’s staple artists. From a college drop out, to debuting the star-studded ‘Montero’ at number 1, Lil Nas has proven he is here to succeed— this performance will definitely exceed all expectations.
GLORILLA
Continuing to make waves in the rap world, GloRilla has proven herself a force to be reckoned with. Following instant success from her 2022 single, ‘FNF (Lets Go)’, she has gone to collaborate with Moneybagg Yo, Niki Pooh, and Cardi B, respectively. Get ready to get turnt to Tomorrow 2, and maybe, just maybe, a (long shot) surprise appearance by Cardi B to grace the shores.
SABRINA CARPENTER
Sabrina’s recently released album, ‘Emails I Can’t Send’, has definitely been one of my personal favorites. Reminiscent of Ariana Grande, her voice will have you in a deep trance. From the slower paced title track ‘emails i can’t send’, to the dynamic ‘Nonsense’, she definitely has more than a few songs you can vibe to. If you are discovering her for the first time, this is a performance that should be at the top of your list.
MARIAH THE SCIENTIST
Since 2019, Mariah has never fallen short with bass filled beats and soft, thoughtful lyrics. Her recent EP, ‘Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission’, has definitely helped her protrude through the music scene. ‘Spread Thin’ and ‘Only Human’ are some personal favorites that are worth keeping on repeat. Now is your chance to experience the endless magic she brings to the stage.
THE VEGABONDS
Hailing from Nashville and led by Daniel Allen since 2010, The Vagabonds are no strangers to swooning a crowd. Their recent song ‘Kids’, which was collaborated with Womz, has proven to be a favorite of long time fans and newcomers alike. Pro-tip? Grab a nice cold beer and strap yourself in for an ecstatic performance.
THUNDERCAT
For a decade, Thundercat has been delivering funky bass-filled beats backed by crafty, bizarre lyrics. Recent collaborations with Silk Sonic and Gorillaz have been nothing short of amazingt. Released in 2017, ‘Drunk’ has been an album that has stayed in heavy rotation with us— songs like ‘Them Changes’,’Drink Dat’, and ‘Tokyo’ are just a glimpse into Thundercats unique style.
CALVIN HARRIS
The man, the myth, the legend. If you don’t know his name, you know his sound. From monumental hits like Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ to ‘One Kiss’ with Dua Lipa, there is very little ground he has not covered. Since the early 2000’s, Calvin Harris’ work has been consistent art fueled by burning passion. Hit after hit, chances are he is the anthem to many of your teenage memories. Get ready to jump around to ‘Summer’ with us on the sandy Gulf Shores like it’s 2014.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
The kings of California hit the gulf shores this summer to bring their legendary catalogue to the stage. 2022 saw their release of their 12th and 13th studio albums, ‘Unlimited Love’ & ‘Return of the Dream Canteen’; With no signs of slowing down, they undoubtably continue to rule the airwaves. As a Californian, RHCP is a band I hold dear to my heart and a performance by them is not to be missed. Whether you are from the west coast or not, you know their names, and you know their music— the timeless Red Hot Chili Peppers need no introduction.
