09/25/23 @ SOMA MAIN STAGE - BY KSENIYA US

As the lights grew dim and smoke filled the stage at SOMA San Diego, fans began to roar at the first sign that Reneé Rapp was about to grace the stage. An onstage screen played photos and videos of the young singer/actress, pulsating to a beat that built up the crowd’s anticipation even more. Just when it looked like they couldn’t handle waiting anymore, Reneé burst on the stage.

Not one to stand still, Reneé Rapp excited the crowd with insatiable energy as she bounced around and danced, engaging the lucky audience members in the first rows. The night kicked off with “Talk Too Much,” which also happens to be the first track on Reneé’s latest album, Snow Angel.  Continuing the high-energy trend, she then sang another track off the new album, “Poison Poison,” a sharp-edged hate note that speaks to a certain someone who doesn’t even deserve the time of day. The crowd sang along with enthusiasm, “You're so fucking annoying, you could poison poison.” Reneé had the audience in a trance.

In between songs, she stopped to speak to her fans in her uniquely charming and flirty way, breaking down the walls between audience and performer. She continued with “Willow,” a slower song that still nonetheless had the crowd singing along as loud as they could. Without a doubt from the start of the night until the end, Reneé Rapp has a magnetism that keeps her fans in the palm of her hand, singing along to every emotional word.
