Since 2012 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Tecate Pa’l Norte has given people all around the world an unforgettable experience through its iconic festival lineups.
With acts such as Calle 13, Mana, and Imagine Dragons, the stacked line up always gives fans something to look forward to. As appealing as the festival line-up may be, the food alone is enough to make someone consider making the trek down to Nuevo Leon. In addition to the food + music, the activities were immersive and tons of fun. Without further ado, here are our picks for this year's top 8 acts at Tecate Pa’l Norte!
BLNKO
The Spanish pop punk group didn’t fail to give the crowd that old school garage-punk-show feeling that is nostalgic to many of us. The four members kicked off the Oasis stage with an energetic performance; Playing original songs and even paying tribute to legends Blink-182 by covering their hit, “All the Small Things”. This is one band you should definitely keep up with as we are sure they will continue to move up the ranks in the festivals to come.
ASTRONOMIA INTERIOR
With elements from the established band Zoe, it’s no wonder Astronomia Interior has taken off the way they have. The Alternative/Indie group jammed out on the Fusion stage giving us the best combination of retro and new age beats. Calm electronic waves with smooth vocals drew us in and maintained their grasp the entire set. If you missed these guys, be sure to give them a search on your favorite streaming service.
LOUTA
Wow, not many words can describe Louta’s performance! It was a great mix of everything that any great set should have. With energetic choreography and artsy stage visuals, it felt like we were not only watching the show, but we were actually part of it. The Argentinian singer’s dancing and theater roots shined throughout his performance. It was beautiful to see fans who did not speak the language sing along from start to finish; A wonderful reminder how music brings us together.
DAYGLOW
Can I call you tonight? Well, if you’re Dayglow you can call us anytime! The Texan indie group rocked the Tecate Original stage in the early hours of Saturday afternoon, and boy did they bring the heat! Aside from playing some of their most notable songs like “Hot Rod” and “Listerine”, the group took us back to the mid 2000’s with their cover of Daft Punks “Robot Rock”. If that wasn’t enough, they took us even further back to 1979 where they covered Lipps Incs “Funky Town”! After a trip down memory lane, the band took us back to today's age and closed out the show with more of their hits. This was our first time seeing Dayglow, and after such an amazing performance, it will not be our last!
STEVE AOKI
Right after Inspector on the Tecate Light stage, one of the titans of EDM took the main stage: Steve Aoki. He wasted no time with spinning tracks for everyone in the crowd to enjoy and head bang. At the age of 45, The multi-award winning DJ proved age will have to work twice as hard to slow him down. With high energy beats and a performance to match, Steve knocked the concert fatigue out and kept us moving into the night. If you're a fan of electric music, Steve Aoki is the definetly the legend you shouldn’t have missed!
5 SECONDS OF SUMMER
Julieta Venegas is not an easy act to follow… unless you’re 5 Seconds of Summer, that is! Kicking off their set with their hit “She Looks So Perfect” helped take the crowd to a bittersweet moment in our lives; young or old, we all have that certain someone who got away, and we’re glad 5SOS can help put it into words! Every bass line, every snare, and every strum of the guitar left us wanting more. The band finished off with their mega hit, “Youngblood”, leaving the crowd shocked with what was arguably the best performance of the festival. As 5SOS embarks on their tour, we hope to catch them soon to relive the magic of this night!
THE 1975
After playing a couple festivals in South America, The 1975 finished with a bang at Tecate Pal Norte. The English pop band kept the crowd engaged with songs such as “Happiness”, “Oh Caroline”, “Sex” and more of their greatest hits. Matthew Healy's voice alongside the musical magic his bandmates produce make for a sublime concoction that leaves you mesmerized. If you missed this band, we definitely recommend you check them out when they hit your town soon!
TWENTY ONE PILOTS
After the amazing performance by The 1975, Tyler & Josh took the stage and proceeded to close out the Tecate Light stage with an electrifying act from start to finish. Staring off strong with “Guns for Hands”, the band definitely set the tone for the final act of the night: they were going out swinging! After covering a hit like “First Date” by Blink-182, they followed up with their own hi “Heathens” which made the crowd roar with excitement. Tyler & Josh ensured our focus never left the stage and, and left a lasting standard on future shows and festivals to come.
