11/3/23 - @ THE OBSERVATORY - BY KSENIYA US

On a cool Friday night in San Diego, an eager audience hyped by two opening bands awaited their beloved headliner. One by one the members of TesseracT filled the stage of The Observatory. Making their long-awaited return to San Diego, the British progressive metal band began the set with “Natural Disaster.”

As the heavy rhythm built up, singer Daniel Tompkins appeared on stage and kicked off the song with his sharp vocals. Flowing flawlessly between metal screams and melodic singing, Tompkins’ skill was on full display.

From the theatrical and mysterious Tompkins to the barefoot bassist Amos Williams, the band was teeming with energy and might. The set continued to “Echoes” from their newest release, War of Being. The album has received stellar reviews and the fans were eager to agree. The energy and emotion in the room was palpable.

Taking it back to an older album, Altered State, the next song, “Of Mind - Nocturne” gave fans a piece of an old favorite to chew on. The band was adorned by an exciting choreography of strobing lights, adding drama as a main character to the show. It was clear that the rest of the night was going to be a symphony of excitement for these prog metal fans.
